We put on the table for the first time the White Charta on the Rights of Elderly People in Romania
On 20 September, starting at 11 am, in the framework of the Regional Resource Hub in the Central Region of the country, created as part of the project and managed by Caritas Mitropolitan Blaj,we met online on zoom, at the first Round Table of consultations on the White Charta on the Rights of Elderly People in Romania.
SeniorNET started the process of elaborating the “White Charta of the Rights of the Elderly in Romania” with the aim to put the topic of active ageing, of the rights of elderly people to be cared for in good conditions, at home or wherever they choose, and to continue to have an active life with family and friends, on the public agenda.
Population ageing is a significant global trend affecting countries around the world. The increase in the number of older people brings with it the need to raise awareness of the importance of their rights.
We therefore aim to draw attention to the problems that restrict their rights, problems that lead to an increased risk of these rights being neglected or violated in the process of implementing existing legislation.
During the meeting we discussed topics of interest in the Charta and heard the views of those present on the usefulness of such a document.
Two main ideas emerged from the event:
– The Charta can be a starting point of a strategy for a systemic approach to the situation of older people.
– We need an authority to address the issue of the elderly.
The consultation process continues with the feedback form that all those present received and whose answers will be centralised to improve the information contained in the Paper.
