Meet SenioriNET’ s members
SAMR Aiud runs a number of programmes for the benefit of those in need – the elderly, the sick, the disabled, to help them lead a dignified life.
In their vision, old age should be for all a time of grace, of introspection and re-approach to faith in God and loved ones.
Between too little income and lack of support from family or the state, too few older people in Romania have the chance of a peaceful life. This hand of help is the only gesture of appreciation and gratitude that many of the beneficiaries of senior citizens’ programmes receive. It is their way of restoring their dignity.
Maltese volunteers care for them, keep them company, pay their bills, accompany them to medical check-ups or visit them when they are hospitalized, take them to holiday shows, celebrate important life events, give them gift packages of necessities, all so that seniors feel loved and protected.
The well-being of the elderly is directly linked to how they stay active and integrated into society. SAMR has therefore created groups and activity centres that succeed in bringing together older people who share the same desire to be useful and to find a source of entertainment to break the daily routine.
The activities are designed so that the ultimate goal of serving the less fortunate is always maintained. Groups from Cluj, Aiud or Miercurea Ciuc meet constantly to participate in cooking, fundraising or spiritual activities.
