In 2021, 69 people from Bucharest and Ilfov benefited from socio-medical home care services
The White and Yellow Cross Foundation of Romania has implemented the project “Socio-medical care services at home” for a period of 12 months in 2021 to increase the quality of life of people with special medical needs, mostly elderly and dependent. The intervention aimed to meet the needs of the beneficiaries, ensuring them a better life and a sense of belonging to society.
“Our values have been and remain respect for the patient and for the dignity of the profession. These have always been our guide to continue our journey in the service of the dignity of the human being, in a rather disheartened and discouraging Romania, in a society in constant change, where the elderly are left behind! We aim, first and foremost, to restore hope and dignity to our seniors who feel abandoned by family and society.” (Măriuca Ivan, President)
The project consisted in providing socio-medical services at home, every month, for a number of 60 beneficiaries in Bucharest and Ilfov, so that during 2021 a total of 69 unique beneficiaries were cared for. They received care provided by nurses. On average, each person cared for received about 2.5 visits per week. The recorded results show that approximately 60% of beneficiaries with neurological pathology post-stroke have reached a stage of semi-independence and/or independence, depending on the severity of the disease. Three quarters (75%) of diabetic beneficiaries have learned to self-administer their blood glucose control medication. Family stress caused by caring for the terminally ill beneficiary was almost entirely eliminated by the presence of the Foundation team at critical moments. Independence and semi-independence for full/partial toileting and 75% for dressing and undressing was achieved. Trips to specialist institutions by beneficiaries with superinfected lesions whose diagnosis was clearly established were reduced by up to 100%. In addition, five volunteers from the organisation were actively involved in the project activities alongside the staff.
