Caritas Romania, founding member of SenioriNET – position on long-term care
The views of Caritas organisations in Europe are expressed within this position paper and are meant to support the European Commission in influencing the EU Strategy on Long-Term Care (LTC).
The topic is of great importance both for Caritas and for SenioriNET members as providers of home care services.
EU and Member States are called upon to modernise and invest in the social care sector by introducing an EU Care Guarantee. To substantiate this call, Caritas has started an in-depth research involving the dissemination of a questionnaire*.
Caritas is calling for an EU-wide framework and strategy for care that sets standards and guides Member States in the provision of social care services at national level. Such a framework should be based on an EU vision of quality care that puts the individual at the centre.
At the same time a two-pronged approach is needed, taking into account:
– the quality and dignity of care
– the quality and decent working conditions for care workers
